Serious and a little austere, it makes a convincing showing. I think it can age and improve, but there's no track record, so it's best to follow its evolution with caution. And, as an orange wine, it isn't your typical white. In many cases it goes better with dishes that would normally call for a tannic red.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIts strength makes it different. Firm and grippy on the finish, it also has fine acidity that combines with persistent flavours. Robust as this style tends to be, it's also very flavourful, showing good fruit and character. It avoids the bitterness and excessive oxidation this style often produces. I liked it a lot, but you need to adjust your expectations. It should age very well. So since 2023, both this wine and the Coche have been fermented and aged exclusively in 228-litre barrels.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey gave it a slightly longer time in oak, one year instead of the previous nine months, to improve the wine's stability, avoid fining and filtration and, above all, improve quality — certainly not to increase the influence of oak on the aromas or flavours.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI love the softer, subtler profile of this wine. It may not have the vivacity or length of the 2023, but it has a more ethereal side. It has 12.7% alcohol, a pH of 3.08 and 6.8 g\/l acidity. 32,700 bottles were produced. It was bottled in November 2025.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI tasted the wines with Luis Pedro Silva, Niepoort's young winemaker in charge of the Douro wines. Most of the wines are from 2024, a less hot vintage with lots of vegetation and high yields — there was enough rain and the plants behaved as if irrigated — but the hot summer caused some stress due to the large leaf canopy and high yields. The vines struggled to ripen all the fruit and keep their leaves green.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt was a very rainy harvest, which made it long and apparently better, because alcohol did not rise and the wines kept their freshness. This was initially positive for the Douro wines but negative for Port. However, the rain reactivated the vines and allowed the grapes destined for Port to ripen too.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 2024 still wines are low in alcohol and seem to be gaining volume and weight. The reds are very floral, perhaps not as vibrant as the 2023s, while the whites are similar to 2023, though perhaps a little rounder.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHalf of the reds are from 2023, a cooler vintage than 2022 and similar to 2021. Yields were low and the grapes very concentrated.
