Description
Invincible Nº 2 Branco 2023 is a winemaker's wine from the Douro Demarcated Region, made by Companhia de Vinhos Invencível, a project founded in 2020 by Portuguese winemaker Rita Marques and South African winemaker Marc Kent. This structured white reflects the identity and minerality of old Douro vines.
Rita Marques and Marc Kent set up Companhia de Vinhos Invencível in 2020. The two winemakers, who had already worked together in 2015, 2016 and 2017 in South Africa and in 2018 and 2019 in Portugal, have now made a bigger commitment by buying a Quinta in Casais do Douro. It's their first joint property and the birthplace of the brand. It's also where two wines, a white and a red called “Invincible number two”, were created; the label design shows the fight between Adamastor and the Portuguese sailors during the Age of Discovery.
Sensory Profile
Distinctly mineral, this wine combines freshness and well-integrated acidity with an enveloping texture from oak ageing. On the nose it shows mineral and fruity notes, with citrus nuances and discreet smoky touches.
PalateOn the palate it's unctuous, balanced and vibrant, with a freshness that gives it tension and elegance. The finish is dry, persistent and very balanced, leaving a pleasant freshness.
Food pairingFood Pairing
Its structure and acidity make it particularly versatile at the table, perfect with:
Oily fish: roast bacalhau with olive oil, grilled salmon or oven-baked grouper.
Shellfish: seafood rice, cuttlefish feijoada or clams Bulhão Pato style.
White meats: roast chicken with aromatic herbs or pork loin with prunes.
Cheese: medium-cured sheep's or goat's cheeses, which benefit from the wine's citrus freshness.
