Description

Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Trocken GG 2023 was very well received by international critics, establishing itself as one of the great dry whites of the 2023 Mosel vintage

Weingut Fritz Haag is in the heart of the central Mosel valley, where grapes have been grown since Roman times. The winery has 17 hectares planted exclusively with Riesling, which it makes in every style, from dry to sweet. Its wines are elegant and sophisticated, with great ageing potential.

Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Trocken GG comes from a fearsomely steep slope in Brauneberg. The Romans already recognised the land's potential and were the first to plant a vineyard here. It's one of the driest vineyards in the area, a real advantage in a damp northern region. It's classified as GG, the German equivalent of "Grand Cru".

Tasting Note (Robert Parker / Stephan Reinhardt)

Nose: Finely concentrated fruit, with tones from pale to yellow, complemented by delicate slate notes typical of Brauneberg.

Palate: Elegant, juicy and spicy at first. Dense and powerful on the finish.

Structure: Remarkable substance, supported by a fine tannic structure and carried to the end by a balanced combination of salinity and acidity.

Tasting Note (James Suckling / Stuart Pigott)

Fruit: Crisp, full pear fruit stands out, with an earthy, herbal complexity that expands as the wine breathes in the glass.

Structure: Considered "very well structured" for the 2022 vintage, with fine tannins supporting a long, precise finish.

Character: Described as both deep and charming, marrying aromas of honeysuckle, vanilla pod and fresh herbs with racy acidity on a focused, elegant palate.

Finish: The finish is likened to a "laser beam" for its straightness and exciting brilliance.
