Description
Pintas Tinto 2023 is an acclaimed Douro wine made by Wine & Soul, known for its complex, elegant and very fresh profile, from an old vineyard about 93 years old.
The Wine AdvocateRP 96Reviewed by: Luis Gutiérrez
The creamy, elegant and polished 2023 Pintas is very well made, showing harmony and balance, with power and presence but also elegance and balance. It's the result of vinifying, in lagar, a mix of grapes from two hectares of 93-year-old vines, with foot-treading for seven days, followed by 23 months in French oak barrels, 20% of them new.
It shows the characteristic notes of wild berries, herbs and flowers, resin and rockrose, on a medium- to full-bodied palate supported by refined tannins. 6,100 bottles were produced. The wine was bottled in July 2025.
Wine & Soul is the project of couple Jorge Serôdio and Sandra Tavares. They have 45 hectares across different Douro villages, 80% of them old vines. Total production is 180,000 bottles.
2023 was a rainy year with moderate temperatures, letting the soil replenish its water reserves after several years of severe drought, particularly 2022. Spring was stable, with good flowering and fruit set, giving higher yields than 2022 and 2020. Summer was hot but without extremes, allowing slow, balanced ripening. The grapes showed good phenolic ripeness, well-defined aromas and good acidity.
The 2023 reds are very well made and show restrained ripeness, good freshness and balance, plus perfectly integrated oak, combining power and elegance.
2024 had more classic, balanced conditions: a winter with good rainfall, properly replenishing water reserves; a stable spring, favouring balanced growth; and a moderate summer, with good temperature ranges and no heatwaves, giving slow, complete ripening.
