Description
Cristal was born in 1876, created by Louis Roederer for Tsar Alexander II, and has become one of Champagne's most sought-after prestige cuvées. The 2016 is 60 % Pinot Noir and 40 % Chardonnay, solely from grand cru vineyards in the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. Part of the wine is fermented in oak, it spends six years on the lees and has a dosage of 7 g/L.
It shows citrus, pear, white flowers, hazelnut and a very pure chalky core. The palate is precise, creamy and vibrant, with great tension and a long, saline finish. Rated 97 by Robert Parker, 97 by Decanter, 96 by Wine Spectator and 98 by James Suckling.
Perfect with caviar, langoustines, scallops or sashimi. Already captivating and will gain complexity for another 15 to 20 years.
