Bodegas Balbás
La Horra, Ribera del Duero, Spain · since 1777
The history of Bodegas Balbás, in La Horra (Burgos), begins in 1777 with Abundio Balbás, who made wine from his own grapes and carried it in hide wineskins — the family were 'boteros', wineskin makers. Seven generations on, the house is run by Juan José Balbás and Clara de la Fuente with their daughters Patricia and María. In 1982 it was one of the ten wineries that drove the creation of the Ribera del Duero DO.
