Description
Altesino Rosso di Montalcino 2024 is a high-quality Italian red, often described as the "younger brother" of the prestigious Brunello, offering an elegant, approachable experience.
Made from 100% Sangiovese di Montalcino and refined in Slavonian oak barrels for eight months, it's released at least a year after harvest. Bright ruby red with a persistent bouquet of fresh fruit and wild berries. Well balanced on the palate, with delicately structured flavours of cherry, plum and berries.
James Suckling:
For the 2024 vintage, now reaching the market, Altesino Rosso di Montalcino received 93 points from James Suckling, above the wine's usual average.
In his review, the critic highlights the purity and freshness of the aromatic profile, with notes of ripe red cherry, rose petals and mineral nuances recalling chalk and graphite. On the palate he describes it as medium-bodied, with vibrant energy, where juicy fruit balances harmoniously with lively, crisp acidity.
The tannins are fine, well integrated and velvety, making it very appealing young. Overall, Suckling finds this Rosso particularly elegant and precise, noting above-average concentration for the category, ending in a long, flavourful finish.
With this score, the 2024 vintage stands out as one of the best-rated ever for this wine, clearly above its historical average of 90 to 91 points.
