The result is Izar-Leku, a sparkling wine full of natural energy that after a long aging in the bottle produces a wine with great aromatic complexity and an attractive, distinct saline minerality. Luis Guitierrez describes the sparkling wine as follows: “… It is very tasty, with depth and complexity, surprising for such a young, strong and long wine. What sets it apart from most sparkling wines is its salinity. Really surprising!”
Artadi was founded in 1986 by a group of winegrowers from Rioja Alavesa who wanted to produce authentic wines with a distinct character. Today they own three wineries: Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi in Rioja, Bodegas y Viñedos Artazu in Navarra and Bodegas y Viñedos El Sequé in Alicante.
Izar-Leku, which means the place of stars, comes from the Gipuzkoa region with the 60-year-old Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza grape varieties, grown on slopes of clayey soils with slate and basalt. Using the traditional method, the wine aged for 36 months on the lees.
