Mater-Dôme Red 2009
Mater-Dôme Red 2009 - 2009 is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Mêda has been “rediscovered”.
In the 50s and 60s, its wines were already well-known and very popular in the old restaurants of Porto, along with Vinho Verde and Vinho Maduro.
Our relationship with Mêda began in 2003 and since then we have paid special attention to the region by working with its wines.
This once famous terroir is now diluted in the huge DOC Douro and has extraordinary potential of its own.
Despite belonging to the Douro Superior, Mêda has its own character. A region between the Dão and the Douro, it has characteristics of both. A schist/granite transition soil in an area at altitudes that can reach 700 m. With a climate where it rains more than in the Douro Superior as a whole and temperatures are milder in summer and colder in winter.
For these reasons, in our opinion, we believe that this region should have its own designation within the DOC Douro.
This is how wine is born Mater-Dôme , the matter of the high.
It has a deep garnet color with cherry reflections, already revealing some evolution, without losing its shine and intensity.
On the nose, it stands out for its aromatic sophistication, with a profile marked by notes of black forest earth, which lend complexity, combined with an expressive presence of wild fruits, namely blueberries and ripe blackberries. An enveloping bouquet, with olfactory layers that reveal themselves progressively.
On the palate, it is fluid and harmonious, with a smooth texture and well-polished tannins that contribute to an elegant and accessible body. Its structure is balanced, and the tasting ends with a persistent aromatic continuity, prolonging the experience and reinforcing the connection between nose and mouth.
A wine with character, refinement and a beautiful expression of its origin and year.
