Álvaro Palacios leaves his mark on this red wine that so well reflects all the characteristics of its place of origin, the clay-limestone slopes of Mount Yerga, in Alfaro. La Montesa 2018 culminates the natural process, begun years ago, towards a classic identity. This vintage there was a definitive change in image. The label follows the model of Quiñón de Valmira and completes the definitive line of the winery's wines: balance of elements, clear hierarchy of contents, informative vocation, projection of a clean, true and timeless style. Red and cream tones take over the bottle, as do the irons of the cattle.
James Suckling: Medium ruby hue with a vibrant, elegant nose packed with delicate fruit, redcurrants and fresh strawberries. Medium-bodied and naturally juicy on the palate, showing great freshness and ease of drinking. Crisp, clear and silky. Drink now or cellar.
Tim Atkin: Álvaro Palacios produces admirably large volumes of this lovely blend of Garnacha with 5% other red and white varieties co-planted on Monte Yerga. Deeper in colour and more structured than the 2019 vintage, this is a classic mountainside red, with blackberry, blueberry and red cherry fruit, juicy tannins, 15% elegantly used new wood and a smooth, bright finish. 2023-2030.
