Description
Anselmo Mendes A Torre Alvarinho 2020 is one of Portugal's most iconic and exclusive whites, made by the master of Alvarinho, winemaker Anselmo Mendes. It is a flagship wine from the Monção e Melgaço sub-region (DOC Vinho Verde), designed specifically to show the grape's enormous ageing potential.
The Wine AdvocateRP 95Reviewed by: Luis Gutiérrez
The 2020 A Torre was produced with Alvarinho from the Quinta da Torre estate, selecting the best grapes from granite soils with a sandy-loam texture, from older vineyard plots with low to medium clay content. It fermented in used 400-litre barrels, where it matured for nine months on its full lees.
It has the complex nose of a great Alvarinho after a few years in bottle — ripe, slightly balsamic and medicinal, complex, clean and elegant, with no sign of oxidation. It has 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.38 and six grams of acidity. It is ready to drink but should continue to develop well in bottle. 4,000 bottles were produced. Bottled in June 2021.
