Description
Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot Chambolle-Musigny 2021 is a prestigious red Burgundy, made from 100% Pinot Noir. This vintage stands out for its classic balance and the structured profile that characterises the producer's traditional approach.
The Confurons — Yves, Jean-Pierre and patriarch Jacky — are the current generations of a very old Burgundy family, with mentions of the family even at the court of Louis XIV. The Domaine is run by Yves and Jean Pierre, though its soul is Yves, who divides his time with Domaine de Courcel in Pommard. The family is very close and father Jacky always helps when he can. Several qualities make this producer special. First, unlike most producers in Burgundy, Yves picks much later, waiting until the Pinot Noir is fully ripe, and then vinifies with 100% stems, seeking freshness and finesse. Second, a purist philosophy, with no interventions that harm the vineyard or the grapes, combined with almost obsessive rigour. The result is great wines that may at first seem "too" luscious, but after half a dozen years become masterful. As a curiosity, and an honour no other family has, there's a Pinot Noir variety in Burgundy called Pinot Confuron.
This wine comes from an east-facing clay-chalk terroir crossed by pebbles and silt. In the cellar, the Pinot Noir juice undergoes long vatting and long maturation in barrels. The wine shows all the delicate, sensual and fine character of Pinot Noir. Its tannins are elegant and the palate is smooth. A wine to be enjoyed in seven to eight years.
