Description
Made from Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sousão, Poeira Ímpar Tinto 2019 shows a markedly young, distinctive profile. On the nose there's a vegetal, sappy character with a very clear stony expression, conveying great freshness and tension. Elegant notes of graphite and dried fruit add complexity and precision.
PalateOn the palate it's very fresh and broad, with a young texture and a strong mineral component. Blue fruit comes through clear and well defined, supported by vibrant acidity leading to a long, dry and extremely food-friendly finish.
A wine of strong personality, challenging and irresistible, combining energy and elegance.
The Wine AdvocateRP 94Reviewed by: Luis Gutiérrez
My favourite red of this tasting (apart from the 10-year-old library release...) is the 2018 Impar, a wine I must admit I didn't know. It's quite classic, elegant and a little closed. I was surprised to see the technical details and find it's a blend of 60% Touriga Nacional, 20% Sousão and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon! The wine isn't shy, with 14.5% alcohol, but there's balance and harmony. When you pay attention to the details, you notice a minty touch typical of Cabernet and a pungent flavour with a sharper tone than usual in the Douro. It matured in French oak barrels for 20 months, and the bottles were kept for five years before release. 1,900 bottles were filled in May 2020.
Poeira, or Quinta do Poeira, is the family project of couple Jorge Moreira and Olga Martins. They own nine hectares in Provesende, in the Pinhão Valley, where the winery is, with vines aged 21 to 70 years, plus two hectares in Covas do Douro planted in 1950. They make around 40,000 bottles.
