Description
The 2023 vintage from Quinta do Couquinho (Douro DOC) offers two excellent still wines, made by the Melo Trigo family in the Douro Superior: Quinta do Couquinho Colheita Tinto 2023 and Quinta do Couquinho Colheita Branco 2023.
Tasting Note
Paulo Castro – Vinogrande
Score: 92/100
A deep, very attractive purple, showing great concentration and youth from the very first glance. The nose is strikingly expressive, with elegant floral notes of violet seamlessly woven into fresh red fruit, especially strawberry and cherry.
The oak ageing has been handled with balance and precision, adding complexity through discreet hints of coffee, cocoa and toasted wood without ever masking the wine's fruit or its regional typicity.
On the palate it is generous and enveloping, with excellent structure and round, ripe, well-polished tannins. The elegant acidity typical of great Douro wines brings freshness, balance and length, drawing the tasting out most enjoyably.
The 92-point score reflects the wine's high overall quality, its harmony of fruit, oak and structure, and its outstanding value for money. It is one of the best choices in its category, offering a level of complexity, balance and pleasure usually found in wines from a higher tier.
