Description
Quinta do Couquinho Reserva Tinto 2021 is an elegant, generous DOC Douro wine, made by the Melo Trigo family from old vines farmed under integrated production.
Intense ruby with deep violet glints, clear and bright in the glass. The nose reveals remarkable complexity, with nuances of ripe red fruit such as cherry and blackberry, seamlessly woven with subtle vanilla from ageing in French oak. Floral notes, especially violet, add a layer of sophistication to the bouquet.
PalateOn the palate it shows remarkable, balanced structure, with present yet silky tannins giving a velvety texture. Well-integrated acidity lifts the vivacity of the red fruit, while spicy flavours such as black pepper blend delicately with the oak, adding complexity and a long, persistent finish.
This wine shows striking elegance and excellent potential to develop in bottle. With promising ageing potential, a few more years in the cellar are recommended to allow an even more refined expression.
It shows a sublime harmony of fruit, oak and structure, standing out for its aromatic complexity and silky texture — a wine that reflects the care and dedication Quinta do Couquinho puts into making wines of superior quality.
Critics, including Jornal de Vinhos in its review of the Best Wines of the Douro Superior 2024, note that the wine benefits from 14 months in French oak barrels, which give it notes of cocoa and smoke that complement the ripe black fruit.
