Muros Antigos Alvarinho Branco 2025 is the latest vintage of this emblematic wine made by winemaker Anselmo Mendes in the Monção e Melgaço sub-region. It's widely recognised for its freshness, minerality and ability to express the purity of Alvarinho.

The 2025 Muros Antigos Alvarinho is my favourite of this range. It has a little more body than the others, with primary varietal character and a dry, serious, austere feel on the palate. It has 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.14 and 6.4 grams of acidity. 150,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in January 2025, after three months on the lees in stainless steel.

Anselmo Mendes started picking Alvarinho in 2025 from mid-September, which makes a big difference in a year of slow ripening. The decisive factor was the difference between day and night temperatures in September, which lengthened the cycle and allowed more development of aromas and flavours in the grapes. 2025 looks like a superb vintage.
