The Confurons, Yves, Jean-Pierre and patriarch Jacky are the current generations of a very old family in Burgundy, with mention of this family in the court of Louis XIV. The Domaine is run by Yves and Jean Pierre, although its soul is Yves, who shares his time with Domaine de Courcel, in Pommard. The family is very close-knit and Jacky's father always lends a hand when he can. There are several predicates that make this producer special. Firstly, unlike most producers in Burgundy, Yves harvests much later, waiting for the Pinot Noir to be very ripe, and when he receives it, he harvests it with 100% stems, looking for freshness and finesse. Secondly, a purist line of thought, without interventions that harm the vineyard or the grapes, associated with an almost obsessive rigor. The result is great wines, which may initially seem "too" greedy, but after half a dozen years they become masterful. As a curiosity, and as no other family has this honor, there is a variety of Pinot Noir in Burgundy, called Pinot Confuron.
Pungent notes of wood and reduction currently dominate the nose. Otherwise, the detailed, fresh and relatively refined medium-weight flavors have a beautiful sense of underlying tension, whilst also delivering concentrated power over the sapient and young, austere finis.
