It comes from a tight selection of grapes produced in the Quinta's oldest vineyards, aged over 35 years: Vale Grande, Cabeço das Pulgas, Casa das Máquinas, Três Encostas and Poente da Viola. It results from the combination of several grape varieties, with Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca usually representing 90% and Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão the remaining 10%.

The grapes from each variety are harvested and vinified separately. After being crushed and de-stemmed into granite mills, they are trampled by foot. Offers are made for vats where fermentation takes place for eight days. After the prepared fermentation, some of the wines undergo malolactic fermentation in barrels.
