Description
Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2021 is a prestigious red made in Sardón de Duero (Castilla y León), known for balancing power and elegance. This vintage reflects a slightly cooler, more "Atlantic" year, giving a wine with greater aromatic depth and freshness.
The best-known wine from the Valladolid winery, a perfect snapshot of Abadía Retuerta, with its own style maintained vintage after vintage. A red made from a selection of the best grapes from each of its vineyards, combining the richness of Tempranillo with the intensity and elegance of other grapes in the blend, such as Cabernet sauvignon and Syrah, among others. The result is harmonious and pleasant.
Tasting Note (Wine Advocate summary)
Luis Gutiérrez notes that the 2021 vintage is marked by a more "Atlantic" profile because of the cooler year, giving a wine that combines power with elegance.
Composition and Ageing: It's a blend of 62% Tempranillo, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 4% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine aged for 12 months in French and American (45%) oak barrels, 30% of them new.
Character: Slow ripening of the grapes allowed it to reach 14.6% alcohol with remarkable richness of aromas and flavours.
Balance: The critic describes it as "very well made, harmonious and balanced".
