Description
Château Haut-Brion 2023 is one of the most prestigious and eagerly awaited wines of the Bordeaux vintage, singled out by international critics for its freshness and classic elegance.
The Wine AdvocateRP 98Reviewed by: Yohan Castaing
Less immediately accessible than La Mission Haut-Brion, the 2023 Haut-Brion stands among the most powerful and profound wines of the range, offering aromas of cassis, spice, graphite, gentian and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a fleshy yet perfectly harmonious texture and remarkable energy and persistence. In this vintage the terroir comes through with unusual clarity, giving a Haut-Brion that is elegant, precise and tense all at once.

The Wine AdvocateRP 97Reviewed by: Yohan Castaing
The 2021 Haut-Brion confirms the excellent impression it made en primeur, cementing its status as one of the wines of the vintage. Its complex bouquet of dark berries and cassis, intertwined with notes of cigar wrapper and glowing embers, unfurls in the glass. Full-bodied, deep and velvety, concentrated and layered, with a multidimensional core of fruit, sweet tannins and vibrant acidity, ending with a long, penetrating finish. Reflecting the timeless elegance of Haut-Brions from cooler years, the 2021 will delight Bordeaux purists.
Published: 8 February 2024.
The 2021 is a blend of 50% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 38% Cabernet Sauvignon. This great wine is all about refinement and a big change of style from the exuberance of recent vintages. Everything here is balanced, from the polished dark-cherry colour to the notes of rose petals and spice, citrus fruit and hawthorn blossom, to the lasting stony minerality that drives the wine. The structure is linear and pure, with great precision. A historic wine made in small quantities. A degree less alcohol than usual (13.8%). Jean-Philippe Delmas compares it stylistically to the 2014, though it seems more complete and intense.
