Tannins come from grape skins, seeds and oak. You feel them as a pleasant drying grip on gums and tongue — from silky and velvety to firm and chewy.
Wine profile

This wine: 4 out of 5 — closer to «crisp».
The freshness that makes your mouth water, like a squeeze of lemon. It gives a wine tension, length and ageing potential, and makes it great with food.

Description
Château Mouton Rothschild 2023 is one of the most coveted and praised wines of this Bordeaux vintage, singled out by international critics as a strong candidate for "wine of the vintage" on the Left Bank.
The Wine AdvocateRP 97Reviewed by: William Kelley
The 2022 Mouton Rothschild is one of the most muscular, almost brutally powerful wines of the vintage. It unfurls in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums and sweet crème de cassis, intertwined with notes of espresso roast, graphite and petroleum jelly. Full-bodied, dense and concentrated, with huge reserves of tannin and fruit.
A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot, representing 49% of the estate's production, this is a prodigious Mouton built for long cellaring.

The Wine AdvocateRP 100Reviewed by: William Kelley
The 2020 Mouton Rothschild is a stunning wine, and one I regretted not buying en primeur as soon as it reached my glass. It offers complex aromas of minty cassis, pencil shavings, loamy soil, cigar wrapper, espresso roast and violets. Medium to full-bodied, broad and layered, with magnificent, concentrated, beautifully refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish.
At 12.8% alcohol, its still-emerging complexity, its indefinable sense of completeness and its exquisite balance mark it out as the purist's choice of the 2018, 2019 and 2020 trio. In this vintage, the lots in the final blend came largely from the central gravel terroirs that are the heart of Mouton, which means there's a little less of this wine available.
This was the first vintage overseen by Mouton's new technical director, Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy, and he's started with a bang.
Published: 6 April 2023
James Suckling: A firm, compact Mouton with a powerful tannic structure for the vintage, yet it stays fine and precise as it opens to a velvety texture. Black fruit with tar, graphite and tobacco. Intense and firm. A little angular and closed at the moment. Blend: 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc.
