Description

Dominio del Pidio Tinto 2022 is a high-end Spanish red made by Cillar de Silos in the prestigious D.O. Ribera del Duero. It's a project focused on recovering the 16th-century winemaking heritage of the village of Quintana del Pidio.

The 2022 Dominio del Pidio red shows aromas of ripe berries and aromatic herbs, with a more Mediterranean profile. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with abundant, slightly dusty tannins, which I consider the signature of this vintage. It has about 8% white grapes to complement the Tempranillo and fermented with 12% whole bunches in concrete tanks. The wine aged for 13 months in 225- and 600-litre French oak barrels. It has 14.5% alcohol, with well-integrated acidity. 44,184 bottles and 700 magnums were produced. It was bottled in August 2024.

Dominio del Pidio is the sister project of Cillar de Silos, in the village of Quintana del Pidio, in the Burgos part of Ribera del Duero, where they make their wines in old underground cellars. They now have 16 hectares of old vines in the village and make 54,000 bottles, growing slowly in both vineyard area and production.
