Description
Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 is widely considered a Napa Valley masterpiece, reflecting one of the estate's best years under the Pinault family (owners of Château Latour).
The Wine AdvocateRP 100Reviewed by: Lisa Perrotti-Brown
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep purple-garnet. The nose starts a little reserved, slowly revealing a restrained intensity of fresh crushed blackberries, chocolate-covered cherries, cassis and anise, with enveloping ‘nuances’ of black tea, cigar box, truffles and charcuterie. With more time, gentle notes of red roses and crushed stones appear.
Medium to full-bodied, the palate is simply captivating, offering a myriad of floral and earthy touches amid a core of black fruit, with firm, integrated, extremely fine tannins. Well-balanced acidity reveals layer after layer of delicate ‘nuances’ through to a very long finish with mineral touches.
The Eisele Vineyard team, led by Frédéric Engerer (of Château Latour) and with the superb direction of winemaker Hélène Mingot, exceeded all expectations in this vintage with a singular expression that honours the heritage of the terroir and reveals still-unexplored dimensions.
It's a stunning, evocative, singular wine that captures extraordinarily the slow, long-ripening elegance of the 2019 vintage.
