96 Points - James Suckling

The largest, oldest, and most famous of Alsace's Grand Cru vineyards, Schlossberg is home to all of the region's noble grapes, planted on its steep, elevated slopes. However, most producers prefer Riesling, due to the spectacular results this grape produces in this terroir. The vineyard's south-southeast orientation guarantees long exposure to the sun, giving the wine generosity, while the topsoil, with its unusual blend of coarse granite sand, gives the wines their mineral structure and a sharp edge. Low rainfall and refreshing westerly winds allow for a long growing season—something Riesling loves—and ensure that wines like the Trimbach Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg 2021 are the height of elegance and precision.

Reviews from the Specialized Press
96 Points - James Suckling (2021 Vintage)

"Extremely focused, with restrained power and concentration, this dry Alsatian Riesling is a masterpiece while still very young, yet already revealing an abundance of Amalfi lemon, wild herb, and spice aromas. The palate is lean and precise. The finish is incredibly long with an incredible crushed rock intensity. From 1.6 hectares of terraced vineyards in this renowned site with ancient granite soil. Organically grown grapes."

Tasting Notes

The Trimbach Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg 2021 intensely reflects the character of its vintage. 2021 was an extreme year: a wet period saved by a glorious "Indian summer," resulting in a small harvest (20% below average) but intensely concentrated, aromatic, and spicy wines. This Riesling is dazzlingly aromatic, with enchanting notes of flowers, honey, pear candy, citrus, and earthy minerals. On the palate, these tones manifest powerfully and incredibly freshly, faithfully conveying the terroir and allowing the Riesling's heavenly complexity to shine fully.
Serving: Ideal now with poultry, creamy cheeses, white meats or feathered game — or store for 3 to 10 years.

About the Producer

Founded in 1626, Maison Trimbach is one of the world's leading wine producers. Based in Alsace, it produces some of the world's finest white wines, with varieties such as Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, and, most notably, Riesling, a grape of which they are undisputed masters. Currently, the house is run by the 12th and 13th generations of the family: Hubert Trimbach, his daughter Anne, and nephews Jean and Pierre. They manage important vineyards, including several Grand Crus.
Trimbach Rieslings stand out for their combination of elegance and refinement, precision and power. Every care is taken to produce wines worthy of the family name—wines that, while excellent young, also have great cellaring potential.
