Description
Mauro Godello Branco 2024 is a Spanish white of excellent reputation and high technical precision, made by the respected Bodegas Mauro under renowned winemaker Mariano García.The 2024 vintage stands out as a cooler year, which enhances the freshness, vibrant acidity and natural elegance of Godello.
The Wine AdvocateRP 93+Reviewed by: Luis Gutiérrez
The 2024 Godello is a varietal white from Bierzo, from Villafranca del Bierzo and Valtuille de Arriba. It fermented in new and used 500-litre barrels, where it then aged on its lees for 10 months.
ColourIt has a pale colour and an expressive aromatic profile, with a balsamic nose alongside notes of herbs, flowers and yellow fruit. On the palate it's medium-bodied, marked by balance, elegance and freshness.
The 2024 harvest was cooler, giving the wine restrained ripeness. It has 13% alcohol and a pH of 3.1, signs of excellent freshness. The finish ends with a distinct spicy note.
15,343 bottles were produced, and the wine was bottled in July 2025.
Biodynamic farming
The estate was certified by Demeter in 2025, formally recognising the biodynamic practices in place since 2015.
According to the winery, biodynamic farming has improved the health, structure and biodiversity of the soils, eliminating synthetic agrochemicals. The result is stronger, more resilient vines and wines with a more distinct expression of terroir.
The estate
The García family owns 90 hectares of vines, averaging 35 years old, in Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo. Annual production is about 350,000 bottles.
The vintages
The 2023 harvest was hot and early, after a rainy winter, giving wines of great finesse, fragrance and ripe fruit, with fine tannins and freshness well preserved thanks to rain in September.
In Bierzo, where the grapes for this Godello come from, the growing season was cool and damp, with gradual ripening. These conditions produced complex, vibrant whites with marked tension and freshness.
Strict yield control and favourable summer weather contributed to concentrated, healthy fruit, picked at the end of August.
The 2024 harvest was low-yielding and has potential for long ageing in bottle. It was marked by spring frosts and meticulous vineyard work, resulting in grapes in exceptional health, balanced ripeness, great aromatic depth and concentrated yet harmonious wines.
