Description
Quinta de la Rosa Vale do Inferno Grande Reserva 2021 is a wine of striking, distinctive character, reflecting the excellence of its vineyard. On the nose it's extremely expressive, with a complex bouquet of juicy red and black fruit, complemented by delicate floral notes and a refined citrus touch.
The Wine AdvocateRP 94Reviewed by: Luis Gutiérrez
The exuberant, showy 2021 Vale do Inferno red, made with Touriga Nacional from 20-year-old vines, is a little oakier but also intense, juicy and fresh, with a moderate 13% alcohol. It aged in French oak barrels, 40% new, for 18 months. It has classic varietal aromas of violets and plums, with generous notes of sweet spice and a smoky touch. It's medium-bodied, with abundant fine-grained tannins. A clean, modern Douro. 2,600 bottles were filled in September 2023.
Quinta de la Rosa is owned by the Bergqvist family, with 62 hectares in the heart of Pinhão, where they mainly make reds and Port, though in recent years they've built a larger portfolio of whites. In 2019 they replanted 2.3 hectares of the Cerejinha vineyard with Alvarinho, Arinto and Gouveio and started making new wines from these grapes. They also bought an adjoining property in 2019, Quinta de Vedeal, with 10 hectares of red grapes. The wines are led by Jorge Moreira of Poeira, totalling about 45,000 litres of white, 200,000 litres of red and 80,000 litres of Port.
