Description
G.D. Vajra Barolo DOCG Albe 2021 is a prestigious Italian red, widely praised for its elegance and excellent value within Barolo. The blend uses Nebbiolo from three high-altitude vineyards — Coste di Vergne, Fossati and La Volta — known for catching the first rays of the morning sun, hence the name "Albe" (dawns).
The Wine AdvocateRP 95Reviewed by: Monica Larner
Do you have a favourite pair of jeans or a special dress you keep in the wardrobe for every occasion? This wine is the equivalent. The G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Albe is an extremely versatile expression of Nebbiolo at an accessible price, offering more value for money than most Barolos available. The bouquet highlights dark fruit, pressed flowers and crushed stone. It shows good sharpness along broad lines. The mouthfeel is medium- to full-bodied, ending with silky, approachable tannins. The fruit comes from three "cru" vineyards: Coste di Vergne, Fossati and La Volta.
The Vaira family of G.D. Vajra has acquired a new vineyard. The new plot is in Bonoretto, in Diano d'Alba, and is planted with Barbera and Riesling.

James Suckling:
Aromas: A marked presence of violets and dried flowers, with subtle notes of blueberries and menthol.
Palate: It has a juicy fruit profile that complements a robust tannic structure.
Finish: The wine ends with a firm, "tightly wound" finish, with just a hint of shy fruit.
