Wine profile
Body
This wine: 2 out of 5 — closer to «light».
How heavy and full the wine feels in your mouth — from light like skimmed milk to rich like cream. It comes mainly from alcohol, extract and, in sweet wines, sugar.
Wine profile
Tannin
This wine: 3 out of 5 — right in the middle.
Tannins come from grape skins, seeds and oak. You feel them as a pleasant drying grip on gums and tongue — from silky and velvety to firm and chewy.
Wine profile
Acidity
This wine: 4 out of 5 — closer to «crisp».
The freshness that makes your mouth water, like a squeeze of lemon. It gives a wine tension, length and ageing potential, and makes it great with food.
Wine profile
Alcohol
This wine: 3 out of 5 — right in the middle (13% vol.).
Alcohol brings warmth and body. Still wines usually sit between about 11% and 15% ABV, while fortified wines such as Port sit around 19–20%.
Wine profile
Sweetness
This wine: 1 out of 5 — closer to «dry».
The residual sugar you can taste. EU label guide for still wines: dry up to ~4 g/L, medium-dry up to ~12 g/L, medium-sweet up to ~45 g/L, sweet above that.

Description
Louca Tinto 2021 was born of a challenge between Luís Louro and Inês Capão. Used to working together, they challenged each other to create a signature wine, made individually, without the other's input. The result proves that there are different ways to approach a region as diverse as the Alentejo. Elegant on the nose; fresh on the palate, with firm yet fine tannins, light, with a long, persistent finish. Great ageing potential. A different kind of red, well worth trying!
The Wine AdvocateRP 95Reviewed by: Luis Gutiérrez
The 2021 LOUca Tinto is the fourth edition of this experimental wine and is actually a blend of wines from the 2020 and 2021 vintages, 50% Trincadeira and 50% Castelão from two vineyards: one planted in 2018 and regrafted in 2020, the other planted in 1993 with both varieties. The grapes were destemmed and foot-trodden, pressed after 24 hours, and finished fermenting off the skins in used French oak barrels, where the wine matured for a year.
This is the palest of them all and my favourite of the reds, with a more delicate, elegant, floral and perfumed profile. It has 12.8% alcohol, a pH of 3.43, a light to medium body, very fine tannins and clean, long, savoury flavours. 1,100 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2023.
Luís Louro is the son of Miguel Louro of Quinta do Mouro. He founded Adega Monte Branco in Estremoz in 2004, after two years buying land, planting and acquiring vineyards. He uses no herbicides and pays ever more attention to native varieties. He farms a total of 28 hectares in five plots, all in Estremoz, the oldest planted in 1993.
