Description
Kimbrel Laurioza 2022 is a limited-production premium DOC Douro red, made from old vines in the Roncão Valley (Alijó) by Kimbrel Wines. The name goes back to an old 18th-century Italian map that called that particular area of the Douro "Laurioza".
This wine is part of the debut portfolio of American businessman David Sylvester and winemaker Isaac Campelo.
Kimbrel Laurioza 2022: Tasting Note
Limited and from an exclusive micro-lot, Kimbrel Laurioza 2022 authentically expresses the elegance and identity of the Roncão Valley in the Douro.
Colour & aromaA deep, bright ruby with violet glints showing its youth and structure. On the nose it's intense and complex, with ripe black fruit such as blackberry and blueberry, harmoniously integrated with delicate floral notes and subtle fine spice, the result of the old-vine field blend.
On the palate it shows excellent balance between concentration and freshness. The tannins are firm but already well integrated and polished, supported by vibrant acidity that gives tension and vivacity. The body is broad and enveloping, filling the palate with elegance and depth.
FinishThe finish is long, persistent and harmonious, with a striking mineral component reflecting the region's distinctive schist soils and prolonging the tasting with great distinction.
Producer Details
The Estate: Based at the historic Quinta do Roncão (in Alijó, in the Roncão Valley), a property dating back to 1851.
The Partnership: The business combines David Sylvester's international vision with the technical know-how of Portuguese winemaker Isaac Campelo, who makes the wines and is a partner in the project.
The Concept: The producer works "Napa Valley style": precision micro-vinifications (very small lots), rigorous attention to detail, sustainable practices and even night harvests.
Production: Deliberately limited and focused on the luxury segment, capped at around 20,000 bottles a year (split between DOC Douro wines and Port)
