Description

The love affair between the critics and this single-plot red from the joint project of Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena has no end. After the 100 Parker score for the 2013 vintage, the 2019 vintage again reached the maximum score, this time from James Suckling. Much could be said about this blend of Cabernet franc and Malbec from vines grown at over 1,400 metres, but nothing compares to the privilege of enjoying its refinement, elegance and longevity.

The Wine Advocate: The 2020 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard is simply phenomenal. It's very fresh and balanced and, for a warm year like 2020, shows no heat or excess; it's subtle, with an ethereal character within the powerful, exuberant Gualtallary profile. It fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts and some whole clusters, sometimes up to 70% of the volume. It's intense and powerful, but something makes it feel light, with great inner strength. It's still young and should develop very well in bottle for a long time. 9,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in July 2021 after maturing in large oak foudres for 15 months.

James Suckling: Notes of ink and liquorice with aromas of blackberry and black olive. Medium- to full-bodied, with round, fine tannins that are crunchy and refined. It has a juicy touch and a flavourful finish. Just a hint of cedar and caramel at the end. Drinkable now, but will be even better in a year or two.
