96 Vinogrande points (personal rating)
Cistus Concilium Douro DOC 2018 , produced by Quinta do Vale da Perdiz under the guidance of winemaker Manuel Angel Areal , is a wine that impresses with its elegance and complexity. Made from Tinta Roriz , Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional grape varieties, the wine undergoes a careful vinification process, with fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. After fining with egg whites and a light filtration, the extended 22-month aging in new French oak barrels contributes to its depth and sophistication.
On the nose , it reveals excellent aromatic intensity, with notes of ripe black fruits complemented by balsamic nuances and spices . There are also delicate notes of truffles , which give it an additional dimension of elegance and complexity.
In the mouth , the wine has a remarkable volume , with very well-worked and high-quality tannins. The refreshing acidity balances the robust structure, making it vibrant and harmonious. The finish is long and persistent, leaving an impression of sophistication and potential for evolution in the bottle.
An ideal choice to accompany rich dishes, such as red meat or game, and promises even more pleasure with ageing.
