Douro
Terraced schist valleys along the Douro river, the world’s oldest demarcated wine region (1756). Hot, dry summers give concentrated reds, high-altitude whites and Port.

Poças
Douro, Portugal · since 1918
Founded in 1918 by Manoel Domingues Poças Júnior, the house began by selling grape spirit to Port shippers. In 1932 it received Quinta das Quartas in settlement of a debt and started making wine. It is still run by the same family, now in its fourth generation, with three estates, one in each Douro sub-region, and 76 hectares of vines.

Wine profile
Body
This wine: 4 out of 5 — closer to «full».
How heavy and full the wine feels in your mouth — from light like skimmed milk to rich like cream. It comes mainly from alcohol, extract and, in sweet wines, sugar.
Wine profile
Tannin
This wine: 2 out of 5 — closer to «silky».
Tannins come from grape skins, seeds and oak. You feel them as a pleasant drying grip on gums and tongue — from silky and velvety to firm and chewy.
Wine profile
Acidity
This wine: 4 out of 5 — closer to «crisp».
The freshness that makes your mouth water, like a squeeze of lemon. It gives a wine tension, length and ageing potential, and makes it great with food.
Wine profile
Alcohol
This wine: 2 out of 5 — closer to «low» (12% vol.).
Alcohol brings warmth and body. Still wines usually sit between about 11% and 15% ABV, while fortified wines such as Port sit around 19–20%.
Wine profile
Sweetness
This wine: 1 out of 5 — closer to «dry».
The residual sugar you can taste. EU label guide for still wines: dry up to ~4 g/L, medium-dry up to ~12 g/L, medium-sweet up to ~45 g/L, sweet above that.

Description
Poças Fora da Série Alicante Bouschet 2022 is a special edition from Poças that aims to show this grape in a fresher, lower-alcohol profile (11.8% vol.) than is usual in the Douro.
Colour & aromaMedium-intensity ruby colour, paler and less dense than usual for the grape. On the nose, notes of wild black fruit such as blackberry and blueberry stand out, wrapped in a fresh vegetal touch that adds complexity.
On tasting it stands out for its energy and freshness: clear acidity gives liveliness, while the texture is fine and polished. The tannins are discreet and very well integrated, contributing to an elegant profile. The finish lingers with a focus on freshness, without excess extraction or alcoholic weight.
In short, a lighter, more precise wine, where elegance and food-friendliness take precedence over intensity and concentration.
