The Balvenie started production in 1892 in Dufftown, Speyside, built by William Grant next to Glenfiddich using the converted Balvenie New House as its maltings. It keeps rare crafts alive: its own traditional floor maltings, barley grown on the Balvenie Mains farm, and coopers and coppersmiths on site. It remains in the same family's hands.

A 700 ml bottle gives about 17 measures of 4 cl. Once opened, store it upright, tightly closed and away from light and heat: spirits keep well for months but slowly lose aroma once the bottle is half empty.

The Balvenie 15 Year Old Madeira Cask is a single malt Scotch from Speyside, known for its fruity, smooth character, the result of maturation in American oak casks and a finish in Madeira wine casks.

At room temperature, to meet the whiskey as it left the cask.
2–3 drops of still water open up hidden aromas, especially above 43%.
One large cube chills with less dilution; it softens but closes some aromas.
