Description
Blandy's, founded in 1811, is the only major Madeira house still owned by its founding family. This 1989 Frasqueira is made from Sercial, the grape that gives the island's driest and most vibrant style, and aged for decades in oak casks by the canteiro method in the company's Funchal lodges.
In the glass it is amber with greenish glints, with an intense nose of nuts, orange peel, caramel, spice and iodine. The palate has the vibrant acidity typical of Madeira, bringing freshness and an endless finish.
Serve at 14–16 °C with aged cheeses, foie gras, nuts or caramel desserts. Once opened the bottle keeps for months, and this is one of the great rarities of Portuguese wine.
