Description
Blandy's, founded in 1811, is the only major Madeira house still owned by its founding family. This 1978 Frasqueira is made from Terrantez, a nearly extinct and highly prized island grape, and aged for decades in oak casks by the canteiro method in the company's lodges in Funchal.
In the glass it is amber with greenish glints, with an intense nose of nuts, orange peel, caramel, spice and iodine. The palate has the vibrant acidity typical of Madeira, bringing freshness and an endless finish.
Serve at 14–16 °C with aged cheeses, foie gras, nuts or caramel desserts. Once opened the bottle keeps for months, and this is one of the great rarities of Portuguese wine.
