Description
Château Ausone is one of the oldest and smallest estates at the top of Saint-Émilion, run by the Vauthier family, whose name appears on the label, which also bears the title Premier Grand Cru Classé "A". The blend combines Cabernet Franc and Merlot and production is very limited. This 2010 vintage is one of Bordeaux's rarest bottles.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black fruit, cedar, tobacco and graphite, with fine spice that gains complexity with air. The palate is structured and elegant, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast kid, lamb chops, dry-aged beef or hard cheeses. It is a wine built for the long haul that rewards patient cellaring.
