Description
Château Calon Ségur is a Third Growth of 1855 in Saint-Estèphe, famous for the heart on its label, inspired by the Marquis de Ségur, who, though he owned Lafite and Latour, said his heart was at Calon. Its Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines are classic, deep and long-lived.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black fruit, cedar, tobacco and graphite, with fine spice that gains complexity with air. The palate is structured and elegant, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast kid, lamb chops, dry-aged beef or hard cheeses. It is a wine built for the long haul that rewards patient cellaring.
