In bottle, the 2022 Lafite Rothschild has turned out even better than I anticipated. The glass offers aromas of sweet red berries, minty cassis, violets and cigar box. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and elegant, with a deep, enveloping core of vibrant fruit, beautifully refined tannins and a long, perfumed finish. Even at this early stage it's remarkably integrated and harmonious, certainly the most elegant of this year's first growths, reminding me of a modern version of the magical 1953 Lafite.

Bottled a little earlier than usual because of extensive building works at the estate, the 2023 Lafite Rothschild offers aromas of cassis and plums with notes of pencil shavings, spice and a subtle hint of fresh leather. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's rich and still very youthful in structure, with soft, fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a savoury, persistent finish.

James Suckling gave 98 points to Château Lafite Rothschild 2023, describing it as elegant and medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins. His note highlights a complex aromatic profile of red fruit, orange peel and graphite, with a "light" texture and seductive finish.

Château Lafite Rothschild 2023 was widely acclaimed by international critics, standing out as one of the highlights of the 2023 vintage.
