James Suckling: A firm and compact Mouton, with a powerful tannic structure for the vintage, but which remains fine and precise as it opens up to a velvety texture. Black fruits with tar, graphite and tobacco. Intense and firm. A little angular and closed at the moment. Composition: 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc.

Jeb Dunnuck: As for the 2021 Château Mouton Rothschild Grand Vin, this masterpiece is in contention for the title of one of the best wines of the vintage, bringing more depth, richness, and texture than almost any other in the Médoc. A blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged in new barrels, it displays a deep purple/plum hue, as well as powerful aromatics of spicy black fruits, vegetal tobacco, graphite, and freshly sharpened pencil. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a layered texture that builds, impressive concentration and intensity in aromas and flavors, velvety tannins, and a stunning finish. It would be hard to guess that it came from a challenging vintage. It will take at least 5 to 7 years to reach the early stages of its ideal drinking window and will evolve gracefully over the next 20 to 25 years. Bravo. For the technical geeks: it has 13.1% alcohol, an IPT of 59 and a pH of 3.73.

The Wine Advocate: The 2021 Mouton Rothschild unfolds in the glass with rich aromas of dark fruit and minty cassis, intermingled with espresso roast, dark chocolate, smoked meats and toasted new oak. It has gained weight with barrel aging, delivering a full-bodied, rich and layered palate that is impressively muscular and multidimensional, with a deep core of fruit and plenty of sweet, structuring powdery tannins, concluding with a long, subtly carnal finish.
