After their skiing careers, the Cathiard family bought the Smith Haut Lafitte estate in 1990, a true gem whose name has been one of the most emblematic in Bordeaux wines for centuries. Driven by the desire to produce one of the best wines in the world and aware of the richness of their Pessac-Léognan terroir, the owners combine ancestral methods (hand selection, composting, horse-drawn ploughing, total elimination of herbicides) with new technologies. On these same lands, their daughter Mathilde and her husband Bertrand created the first Vinothérapie® spa and the Caudalie® cosmetics brand.

Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a wood-aged red wine produced by Château Smith Haut Lafitte with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grape varieties in the French AOC Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux.

With over 600 years of history, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is located in the commune of Martillac, in the Graves region. It takes its name from its owner George Smith in 1720 and the Haut Lafitte plateau where the vineyard is located. It is currently owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, founders of the Go Sport stores, who sold their business to dedicate themselves fully to continuing the family legacy.

In the vineyard, Château Smith Haut Lafitte relies on the most innovative technology to achieve maximum precision. They use oenoview technology, which provides satellite images to predict the best time to harvest and vinify each plot.

After manual harvesting and double selection of the grapes, the berries are pressed, undergo cold maceration and then fermented in large, lined wooden vats. Finally, the wine ages for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, 65% of which are new.

Seeking to reflect the full potential of a magnificent terroir, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a fresh, balanced and unctuous wine. An authentic expression of the Pessac-Léognan AOC.
