Description
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is the great reference of the Hermitage hill, and the Chave family has been growing vines since 1481. The red Hermitage is a Syrah blend from several plots on the hill, such as Bessards, L'Hermite, Péléat and Méal, combined to give a complete wine of great longevity. This 2017 vintage is a much sought-after bottle.
In the glass it shows an intense colour and a nose of blackberry, violet, black olive, pepper and cured meat over a smoky background. The palate is dense and silky, with fine tannins, freshness and a long, spicy finish.
Decant for at least an hour and serve at 16–18 °C with game, duck, roast lamb or aged cheeses. Already enjoyable, it has the structure to evolve for many years in the cellar.
