Description
Pol Roger, founded in Épernay in 1849, dedicated its prestige cuvée to its most famous customer, Sir Winston Churchill. Made only in exceptional years, it combines a majority of Pinot Noir with Chardonnay from grand cru vineyards the family already owned in Churchill's day. The exact blend remains a house secret.
The 2015 shows candied citrus, ripe orchard fruit, dried white flowers, honeycomb and fresh bread, with a hint of anise. The palate is vinous and concentrated, with bright acidity, chalky structure and a pinpoint mousse. Rated 94 points by Wine Advocate.
A gastronomic Champagne for truffled poultry, veal, lobster or hard cheeses. It benefits from some bottle age; drinking window 2025 to 2045.
