Description
Quinta da Pellada Alto Tinto 2019 is a prestigious red from Portugal's Dão region, made by renowned winemaker Álvaro Castro. It's known as a "high-altitude" wine (from vines at about 550 metres), which gives it characteristic freshness and elegance.

The 2019 Alto Vinho Tinto aged for 24 months in well-used French oak barrels (five to seven years old). It has just 13% alcohol. Firmer, more flavourful and more closed than the Casa reviewed in this report, it's a radically different wine. It shows a vibrant profile, with raspberry notes on the attack and relatively ripe tannins.
This year it's more distinctive than the Casa, with more ageing potential. Even so, it's polished enough to enjoy young, but those who give it two more years will be rewarded.
