Wine profile
Body
This wine: 5 out of 5 — closer to «full».
How heavy and full the wine feels in your mouth — from light like skimmed milk to rich like cream. It comes mainly from alcohol, extract and, in sweet wines, sugar.
Wine profile
Tannin
This wine: 4 out of 5 — closer to «firm».
Tannins come from grape skins, seeds and oak. You feel them as a pleasant drying grip on gums and tongue — from silky and velvety to firm and chewy.
Wine profile
Acidity
This wine: 3 out of 5 — right in the middle.
The freshness that makes your mouth water, like a squeeze of lemon. It gives a wine tension, length and ageing potential, and makes it great with food.
Wine profile
Alcohol
This wine: 4 out of 5 — closer to «high» (19.5% vol.).

The 2020 Vintage Port, a typical field blend, spent 24 months in used vats before bottling in August 2022, with 108 grams per litre of residual sugar. There's a touch of cistus on entry, followed by a mid-palate crafted with plenty of elegance. It has reasonable depth and more finesse than most 2020s usually show.
A few hours in the glass let it expand and become more expressive in fruit terms too. The juicy finish, with plenty of black-fruit nuances, is quite delicious, and it has the structure to age satisfyingly.
It looks like a winner, but certainly needs some time to develop. The tannins aren't too harsh, which may lead some to think it's ready to enjoy. That would be a mistake. It held up well over several days, yet still didn't fully open. It's promising, but give it time. It still has some questions to answer in the cellar.
In particular, aired over several days, it became a little more alcoholic.
