The 2022 Quinta de Saes Tobias Tinto, made with 70% Touriga Nacional and 30% Jaen, had a classic vinification and aged in well-used, neutral 225-litre French oak barrels for 12 months. It's fruit-driven, juicy and direct, but serious, with fine-grained tannins, restrained ripeness and 13.1% alcohol. It was bottled in October 2024.
Quinta da Pellada remains one of the best, if not the best, producers in the region and one of the pioneers of quality wine in the Dão. It's led by the charismatic Álvaro Castro and his daughter Maria. The wines ferment with indigenous yeasts and age in stainless steel or used barrels, to avoid excess oak aromas and flavours and bring out the grapes and the granite terroirs of their vineyards.
