Reserva had its origins in an experiment when, in 1995, Soalheiro was one of the first to experiment with combining Alvarinho and French oak. After much experimentation, in 2006 we developed the Reserva style that still exists today. This wine reveals Alvarinho in all its essence, without the influence of the wood used masking the characteristics of this variety. The barrel nuances are very well integrated, complementing the aromatic profile of Alvarinho while adding a new dimension of structure and complexity.
Soalheiro Reserva has the character to be enjoyed with or without food. The evolution in oak barrels and its acidity make Soalheiro Reserva a perfect wine to pair with dishes traditionally associated with red wines. It goes perfectly with fatty fish, red meat, goat, lamb, turkey, duck, game dishes, chicken or any other dish with cream sauce or mushrooms, but it also pairs well with Asian and Mediterranean dishes.
