Located between Cuba and Alvito, in the demarcated region of Vidigueira, Herdade das Assentes de Baixo is the birthplace of the notable wines produced by Joaquim Costa Vargas. This agricultural project is not just limited to wine growing, but also includes the extensive production of sheep, beef and black pig meat.
The Vineyard and Wine Production
The vineyards occupy a significant part of the property, covering approximately 18 hectares, with red varieties predominating with 80% of the area. Here, you can find the regional varieties Trincadeira and Aragonês, but also varieties such as Trincadeirta, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet and Syrah. Among the white varieties, Antão Vaz stands out, complemented by Roupeiro.
The priority in the vineyard is quality over quantity, which results in grapes of excellent quality. Harvesting is manual, using 12 kg boxes to preserve the integrity of the grapes until they arrive at the winery.
In the winery, traditional methods are combined with modern winemaking techniques, producing soft red wines, with balanced acidity and fruity notes of red fruits, jams and spices. White wines have a citrus color, are fresh, with good acidity and tropical notes.
