Wine of the Week: Conceito Tinto 2018

1 min read Paulo Castro

This week on the Vinogrande Blog we're delighted to feature a wine that not only symbolises the winemaking excellence of our range but also captures the essence of the Douro's unique terroir: 'Conceito Tinto 2018'. Chosen as an unrivalled representative of the region, it is made from the finest traditional Douro grape varieties.

Vineyards and Terroir

From the 80-year-old vines of Quinta do Cabido, in the parish of Numão, Conceito Tinto comes from a truly singular site. Its grapes grow on schist soils, in a rare setting where the Teja stream carves the landscape into a natural, south-facing amphitheatre. This microclimate, together with the soil, gives the grapes unique characteristics, reflected in the wine's complexity and intensity.

Winemaking and Winemaker

Made under the direction of winemaker Rita Marques, Conceito Tinto is the result of meticulous winemaking. The grapes are carefully hand-picked and partly destemmed, keeping the fruit intact. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, followed by extended maceration to draw out the best of the grapes. Twenty months in French oak barrels (50% new) is the final touch that shapes its distinctive character.

Tasting Notes

Conceito Tinto 2018 is a symphony of fresh fruit, with notes of cherry and blackberry blending harmoniously with the oak. Its good acidity lifts the tasting experience and makes it superb with food. It is, without doubt, a wine that defies words, inviting an appreciation beyond description.

Reviews and Awards

The excellence of Conceito Tinto hasn't gone unnoticed in the wine world. With 95 points from Robert Parker and 18.5 points from Grandes Escolhas, it stands as a benchmark of quality and sophistication, celebrating the best the Douro has to offer.

Conclusion

Conceito Tinto 2018 represents the harmony of terroir, tradition and innovation, capturing the essence of a region blessed by nature and winemaking talent. We invite wine lovers to discover for themselves the magic in every bottle of Conceito Tinto 2018.
