Wine Enthusiast is an American wine and food magazine: tastings, year-end lists (Top 100, Cellar Selections) and regional critics. At Vinogrande it doesn't have the mass of tags that Wine Advocate or Suckling have, but it appears with a number and name on dozens of product pages — Ports, Douro, Champagne, Germany.
When the product page says "91 pts Wine Enthusiast", that's what we quote. No source, no number.
Who they are and how they score
A 100-point scale, in the same family as Spectator and Advocate, with its own editorial team and panel. For European wines and Port, our product pages often quote Roger Voss. For other regions, other names. The "Top 100 Cellar Selections" accolade isn't a score: it's a list. When a product page has both, the shop keeps list and number separate.
In the magazine's terms, 90–94 is excellent; 95–100 is classic. Vinogrande doesn't turn that into stars or discounts.
Why Vinogrande lists Wine Enthusiast
Because it reaches our product pages with a source, often alongside Spectator and Advocate on the same Port. Customers who read reviews in English already use it. Our wine shop in Moledo do Minho doesn't invent it to "fill in" a wine without a score: either it's on the product page, or it isn't written.
Four wines from the shop (real scores)
Poças 10 Anos Tawny Porto. On the product page: 91 pts Wine Enthusiast — tawny colour, a bouquet of dried fruit and raisins, fruit and wood combined. A ten-year-old Port with a number and a publication, not just the age on the label.
Quinta do Pessegueiro Grande Reserva Tinto 2021 (Douro). On the product page: 93 points from the renowned American magazine Wine Enthusiast. (The product's web address includes "2020"; the product title is 2021 — we quote the title.) A red by João Nicolau de Almeida, with an American score on the Portuguese page.
Malard Champagne Cuvée Excellence Brut. On the product page: 90 points (Wine Enthusiast), with Roger Voss describing it as well balanced, with ripe fruit to the fore. A serious entry-level Champagne, 90 points, named critic.
Fritz Haag Riesling Kestener Paulinshofberg GG 2021 (Mosel). On the product page: Wine Enthusiast awarded 95/100 points, dry but generous, grapefruit sorbet in the magazine's description. A German white at the 95 level — so the catalogue isn't just Douro and Port.
A note on method: according to its product page, Pessegueiro Reserva Tinto 2023 is on Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections list. That's a list accolade, not a number. So we don't invent a 90 or a 94 in this paragraph.
