Sidónio de Sousa Garrafeira 2017 is a true tribute to the Bairrada tradition and the noble Baga grape variety. Coming from some of the oldest and most prestigious vineyards in the region, this wine reflects respect for authenticity and the accumulated knowledge of several generations.
On the nose, it reveals remarkable complexity, with notes of ripe wild red fruits (blackberry, sour cherry), wrapped in earthy, balsamic nuances and subtle touches of spices and old wood, resulting from the long aging in Portuguese oak barrels. The aromatic expression is deep, but always fresh, with hints of tobacco leaf, cigar box and light leather that announce its ageing potential.
In the mouth, the wine is intense and structured, with firm but very fine tannins, supporting a vibrant acidity that balances and prolongs the whole. The fruit remains present, but it is the elegance and purity of the Baga that dominate, with a polished texture and a long and persistent finish, marked by freshness and minerality.
Vinified in a wine press and aged in cement and 4000L national oak barrels for 18 months, this Garrafeira is living proof that tradition can produce wines of enormous finesse and longevity.
Conclusion: An exceptional Baga, faithful to its Bairrada origins, with character, elegance and a capacity to evolve in the bottle that promises to reward the most patient for many years. Ideal for those who appreciate authentic, terroir-based wines with identity.
